while i was in san diego i had a few days off, so decided to drive down into baja, mexico to visit my good friend austin, who works at an orphange. he lives in a desert city called colonia vicente guerroro, about a 5 hour drive south of tijuana. the orphange is expansive, and unfortunately there is no shortage of orphans. austin and his mexican friend deborah have a special place in their hearts for disabled children, and austin has basically adopted a severly delayed kid named jesus. it’s a lot of fun! austin and deborah have since established their own orphange nearby called eternal anchor. definitely an excellent place to support if you have some resources!
one day we left jesus with some neighbors and drove south to a place called catavina, about half way down the baja peninsula. it is famous for its unique rock formations, and it was quite impressive. we found a cave with indigenous pre-european era drawings. along this road there is no fuel available for more than 5 hours, so guys sell it from jerry cans along the road at grossly inflated prices. it was good times and lots of cheap tacos, and an enjoyable middle of the night saunter around downtown tijuana on the trip back up! viva mexico!
